The NICL AO selection process 2026 has three stages: Phase I, Phase II and an interview. National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) builds the final merit list from the Phase II objective marks and the interview marks at 80:20. Return to the NICL AO Agriculture 2026 guide for all pages.
What are the stages in the NICL AO selection process 2026?
- Phase I: an online preliminary examination for all disciplines.
- Phase II: an online main examination with an objective test and a descriptive test.
- Interview: NICL calls shortlisted candidates to select centers.
- Final merit list, then a medical fitness check.
The NICL AO exam pattern 2026 gives marks and time for each test.
How does Phase I shortlist candidates?
Phase I has 100 marks and three sections. A candidate must qualify in each section by securing the passing marks that NICL decides. NICL then shortlists an adequate number of candidates in each category. The advertisement puts this at about 15 times the vacancies, subject to availability.
NICL applies cut offs in two steps. It first applies them to the score in each test. It then applies them to the total score. The NICL AO previous year cut off page shows past figures.
How does Phase II work?
Phase II has an objective test of 250 marks and a descriptive test of 30 marks. The objective test runs for 3 hours. NICL gives the descriptive test right after it. Candidates type the answers on the computer.
NICL checks the descriptive answers only for candidates who clear the minimum score in each objective section. The descriptive test is qualifying and has its own cut off. Its marks do not count for the interview shortlist or the final selection.
NICL captures the thumb impression, iris scan and photograph of each candidate on the day of Phase II. It verifies them later. Candidates must give correct data at every stage, because a mismatch can lead to rejection.
How does NICL shortlist candidates for the interview?
A candidate needs a minimum total score in the Phase II objective test. NICL decides this score from the number of vacancies. The candidate must also qualify in the descriptive test. NICL shortlists candidates on the overall marks of the Phase II objective test.
NICL posts the interview center, date and time on its website and issues a call letter. It does not entertain requests to change the date or center. NICL pays shortlisted candidates the sleeper class rail or bus fare by the shortest route on proof of travel.
How does NICL prepare the final merit list?
NICL adds the Phase II objective marks and the interview marks at a ratio of 80:20. A candidate must also secure the minimum qualifying marks in the interview. NICL lists candidates in descending order of the combined marks.
If two candidates have the same score, NICL ranks the one with higher interview marks first. If those marks match, it ranks the older candidate first. NICL may select candidates in more than one batch. It may also keep a waiting list of up to 50% of the vacancies.
When NICL holds an exam in more than one session, it equates the scores across sessions. It reports each test score and the total score with two decimal places. NICL appoints a selected candidate only after a medical fitness check.
