How long is the probation?

An officer on regular pay rolls serves a probation of one year from the date of joining. NICL may extend it twice by six months each time. The total extension stays within one year.

The officer must pass the non-life Licentiate Examination of the Insurance Institute of India. The officer gets confirmed only after passing it. An officer who fails within the extended probation can lose the job. NICL may also end the service of an unsuitable officer at any time in probation.

What is the guarantee bond?

Before joining, the selected candidate must give an undertaking to serve NICL for at least four years, including probation.

• An officer who resigns before the bond ends must pay liquidated damages. The amount equals one year of gross salary paid in the year of probation. NICL may reduce it in proportion to the service done.
• The officer must submit a stamped bond with two sureties. The sureties must not be blood relatives and must have sound financial standing. The bond amount equals one year of gross salary.
• An officer who resigns in probation must pay the gross salary received during the whole service. An officer whom NICL terminates in probation must pay the same amount. Both also pay ₹25,000 towards part of the training cost.
• No lien or bond for a post with a present employer binds NICL. The officer gets no leave salary and no pension contribution from NICL for that period.
