What does the syllabus cover?

The notification names five sections:

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning
  • General Awareness
  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • English Language and Comprehension
  • Branch section: Diploma-level Electrical Engineering

The branch section tests your knowledge of Electrical Engineering at diploma level. Your diploma is the base for this section. Read the eligibility rules for the diploma and experience that the post needs.

CPRI uses the same four general sections for Technician Gr.1, Scientific Assistant, Technical Attendant Gr.1, and Engineering Assistant (Mechanical). Only the 40-mark section changes with the post. Assistant Gr.II and MTS have four sections of 25 questions each and no branch section.

How does negative marking work?

Each correct answer gives 1 mark. Each wrong answer takes away 0.25 marks, which is one quarter of a mark. The table shows your score if you answer all 100 questions.

Right answersWrong answersScore
901087.5

How much time do you get for each question?

You get 90 minutes for 100 questions. That is 54 seconds for each question on average. The 60 general questions and the 40 branch questions share the same 90 minutes.

Here is one way to split the time. Suppose you finish the 60 general questions in 40 minutes. You then keep 50 minutes for the 40 branch questions. That gives you 75 seconds for each branch question.

What happens after the CBT?

After the CBT, CPRI holds the job-specific practical skill test. It also checks your original documents. Read the selection process page for the stages, the tie rule, and the documents.

How do you take the CBT?

You take the CBT in one of five cities: Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Bhopal, Delhi, or Kolkata. CPRI shows your venue, date, and time on the admit card or call letter. You must carry the admit card and an original photo ID.
