What is the RRB Radiographer X-Ray Technician exam pattern 2026?

The paper has multiple-choice questions with four options. Only one option is correct. The questions follow the standard of the minimum professional qualification for the post.

The notice calls this split indicative. The real paper may vary. The notice gives the professional ability syllabus in Annexure C of the CEN.

Why does professional ability matter most?

Professional ability carries 70 percent of the marks. The other three sections add only 30 marks. Spend most of your practice time on radiography subjects.

How does negative marking work?

The RRB deducts one-third mark for each wrong answer. Each question carries one mark. A skipped question gets no deduction.

Take an example. A candidate attempts 80 questions and gets 70 right and 10 wrong. The deduction is 10 times one-third, which is about 3.33 marks. The score is about 66.67 marks.

With four options, a blind guess has an average gain of zero. Remove one option and the average gain turns positive. So answer a question when you can rule out at least one option.

How long is the exam and in which language?

The CBT runs for 90 minutes. PwBD candidates who are eligible for a scribe get 120 minutes. A candidate who is eligible for a scribe but does not use one may also ask for compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour.

The paper is in English, Hindi and 13 regional languages. The candidate chose one language in the application. The screen shows questions in that language and in English.

What are the minimum qualifying marks?

The RRB may cut the minimum by 2 marks for PwBD candidates if too few qualify. These marks do not decide the call. The RRB calls candidates in merit order. Read the selection process for the full shortlisting rule.

What are the exam day rules?

The RRB gives the e-call letter about 4 days before the CBT. It gives the exam city about 10 days before the CBT. Download both only from the official RRB website. No letter comes by post.

• Bring the e-call letter and one original photo ID, such as an Aadhaar card, a PAN card or a passport.
• Bring a colour passport photograph that is not older than two months.
• Write the self-declaration paragraph at the venue, in front of the invigilator. Sign in running handwriting, not capital letters.
• Leave phones, watches, calculators, books, bags, belts, caps and water bottles outside. The RRB may not offer a cloak room.
• Do not apply henna on hands or feet. It blocks the biometric scan.

The RRB does not change the date, the centre or the shift for any reason. A candidate who breaks the rules can lose the candidature and face a ban.
