The NCRTC Supervisor Mechanical selection process 2026 has two stages. First, candidates take a computer-based test (CBT). Then candidates who pass the CBT take a medical fitness test. The notice lists no other stage. This page is part of the NCRTC Supervisor Mechanical 2026 guide.

How the NCRTC Supervisor Mechanical selection process 2026 works

Stage 1: computer-based test

The CBT has 100 questions for 100 marks. The exam pattern page shows the full format. NCRTC sets a minimum qualifying percentage for each category group.

CategoryMinimum qualifying percentageMarks out of 100
UR, OBC (NCL), EWS60%60
SC, ST, PwBD, ex-servicemen50%50

After the CBT, NCRTC makes further selection on merit. Minimum marks do not give any right to shortlisting or final selection. The result depends on the number of positions, the ratio NCRTC applies, and your performance relative to others in your category. Supervisor-I (Mechanical) has only 3 posts, so your rank matters more than the pass mark.

All 3 posts are unreserved. A candidate from SC, ST, OBC (NCL), or EWS who applies against an unreserved post gets no lower qualifying marks. This is rule 2.10 of the notice.

Stage 2: medical fitness test

Candidates who clear the CBT must pass a medical fitness test. Post codes D01 to D05 need the A-3 standard.

TestA-3 standard
GeneralPhysically fit in all respects
Distant vision6/9 and 6/9, with or without glasses
Near visionSn 0.6 and 0.6, with or without glasses
Other vision testsColour, binocular, field, and night vision must be present
Glasses powerNot more than plus or minus 2D
Lasik surgeryNot allowed

The notice calls these standards indicative and not complete. It refers to the Indian Railway Medical Manual for full details. It also bars any other keratotomy for vision correction. Check your vision well before the test.

NCRTC pays for the first medical examination. A candidate pays for a second examination when the candidate does not join in time and asks for an extension or a re-examination.

Document and eligibility check

NCRTC checks your original documents on the date of the medical examination. A candidate who fails this check does not move to the next stage. NCRTC then rejects the candidature. Read the eligibility page to prepare your documents.

What happens after selection

  • NCRTC checks character and antecedents. Success in selection gives no right to appointment until this check is satisfactory.
  • You fill an attestation form. Wrong or hidden information leads to removal from service.
  • You serve a probation period of 2 years.
  • You sign a surety bond of ₹4,00,000 for a minimum service of 3 years.
  • You complete on-the-job training before posting.

The notification page lists the pay and the service terms.

Admit card for the CBT

Eligible candidates can download the admit card from www.ncrtc.in only. NCRTC also sends the access link to the registered email. An admit card is not proof of eligibility. Your candidature stays provisional until NCRTC verifies your documents.
